Vidhu Vinod Chopra Apologizes To Media
By Webmaster, 2 January, 2010
Vidhu Vinod Chopra Apologizes To MediaIt is said that the path to success is always an uphill task. So it was seen when a sudden twist in the 3 Idiots success story was unfolded these last few days. What is coming out is that Chetan Bhagat who is the writer of the book ‘Five Point Someone’ seems to have claimed that the film is almost 75% of what he has written in his book.

According to him, when he was approached with the idea of the book being taken for film making, he was told that only a few ideas would be taken with the back drop being an educational institute. Thewriter said that he was not given the script nor was he shown the film prior to release.

On the other hand the film makers are on the tune of not taking the whole book into account while picturising it. According to them the story has been penned by thewriter Abhijat Joshi and RajKumar Hirani which has been adapted for the screenplay.

During a press meet in Noida where the success of the film was to be the issue in discussion, all the cast along with the Producer, director and writer were present at the meet, there was a slight ruffle created. As someone asked the film makers whether what Chetan Bhagat was saying was true, the reaction from the film’s unit was very agitating. They got miffed off with the idea of Chetan Bhagat saying that the film was almost a remake of the book’s details. Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra was on a very emotional high and angrily told the media people to shut up.

The film folks are claiming that it was their screenplay writer Abhijat Joshi who had taken a lot of time to work on the script so how could anyone say that it was a copy of some book?  It was even heard that since the film was a success so Chetan Bhagat was trying to steal the limelight. What ever the controversy if things could be amicably settled it would help all asthe film could get more focus then, rather than the controversy

P.S: This morning that is on the 2nd of Jan’2010 there was an early morning press conference where Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra again gave a press interview where he has apologized for his nasty behaviour withthe media. He said that he hadn’t slept for the whole night and even his kids were upset with him for such a silly behavior with the media.

The producer said that he had become very emotional as just before the nasty episode with the media because they had met kids who were survivors of cancer and one child with a marred limb had come to him and said ‘Uncle All Is Well’, this had touchedthe film maker a lot and he had shed tears due to that.

So, after that when he was still emotional from within he had got carried away, but he said he was profusely sorry for what had happened and after making such a nice movie it was not proper for him to behave in such a manner. He also said that Chetan Bhagat had been paid for the copyright of the book and even the bonus money had been paid to him before the film had become a hit. So what the writer was doing was in bad taste.

For now, Vidhu Vinod Chopra has gone for a holiday in Agra with his family and director RajKumar Hirani has gone to Mumbai to clarify that Chetan Bhagat was indeed shownthe script and it was not how the writer was putting it across to the media. So let’s wait and see the next step in this direction!
