Sanju Baba unhappy with multiple re-takes
By Webmaster, 7 June, 2008
Sanju Baba unhappy with multiple re-takesSanjay Dutt is known to be a perfectionist. But recently, his reputation of being a one-take artiste was in jeopardy when he was shooting an action scene for Sujoy Ghosh’s Aladdin. Sanju had to give 22 retakes to complete one single scene.

The filmmakers had specially hired William Ong, an action-director from Hong Kong, to hone Sanju’s martial arts skills. However, Dutt was unable get it right. A hard taskmaster that Ong is, he was unhappy with some action sequences and made Dutt give 22 retakes before the shot could be canned. This repeat performance left the actor angry and frustrated.

Our source who was on the sets says, “Ong has been with the team ever since the Jaisalmer schedule in October last year. Sanjay Dutt, who had initially allotted 20 days to shoot for the film, will now shoot for about 45 days. In fact, in his quest for a perfect shot, Ong did many retakes. Sanjay, who is known to give one-take shots, was obviously not happy with the number of retakes that Ong asked him for. Ultimately, Sanjay had given as many as 22 re-takes before the scene was finally canned. The actor was fuming.”

“Ong has been part of Jackie Chan’s troupe for a long time and has done many action sequences in the past. He wanted a perfect shot and that’s why Sanjay had to give so many retakes before Ong was happy with the scene,” adds the source.
